Octanol is a primary alcohol terpene-related compound whose name points to an eight-carbon chain (octa = eight). The best-known form is 1-octanol (octan-1-ol). It is a clear, oily organic liquid that can dissolve in water and carries a strong fatty-citrus odor often compared to fresh orange peel.
