CBN

CBN is cannabinol, a cannabinoid that forms when THC ages. On lab sheets it usually appears in small amounts next to THC and THCA. The molecule is the oxidized form of delta-9-THC; light, heat, and time slowly convert THC into CBN.

Most cannabis that is stored for months or years shows some CBN. Fresh flower typically has very little. Labs list it as a separate line item once the level is high enough to measure. The name and the structure are the main points recorded in reference libraries.

CBN is one of the better-known minor cannabinoids because it appears reliably in older material. It is not one of the primary compounds produced by the plant; it is a breakdown product.
